Huge Jack O’lanterns
And welcoming
scarecrows
Carefully hidden
In among bales of straw
Perched on doorsteps;
Children of all ages
Roaming the streets;
Candles burning brightly
In windows;
White, spooky, ghosts and
goblins
Blowing them out;
Eerie winds howling;
Frankenstein and batman,
Monsters and devils,
Angels and ballet dancers,
Clowns and jesters,
Running from door to door,
Through moon lit streets;
Branches bending,
breaking, in the wind,
Swirling leaves dancing,
Weird shadows forming;
Young parents showing off their
young;
Fierce grandparents out on
patrol;
Fear of child predators
everywhere;
Dogs barking endlessly,
Playful puppies escaping;
"Halloween treats,
please!"
The cry of the young masses;
"Trick or treat!"
Doorbells ringing melodiously,
Little hands, big hands,
pounding on doors;
Mischievous boys soaping
windows;
Flashlight beams waving,
Community police on patrol;
Bags of candy, dropped in
haste,
Chocolate bar
wrappers tossed aside;
Chaotic school parties,
Prizes for best costumes,
Bobbing for apples;
Tired, cranky, children
with tummy aches,
Exhausted,
exasperated parents;
"Whew! It's over!"
Happy Halloween.
The sights and sounds of Halloween are everywhere.
